Unlike other countries that have imposed travel restrictions on Russia, Thailand is open to welcoming Russian tourists.  This week, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced its plan to bring Russian travelers into Thailand through regular chartered flights in an effort to boost tourism earnings for the upcoming peak season which will start from November to February.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian market provided a major portion of Thailand’s tourism earnings and Russians became Phuket’s second largest source of the province’s tourism income.

Russians are the first who downloaded Thailand Pass and boarded a flight to Thailand as the borders slightly reopened during the pandemic.  They are willing to comply with all requirements despite the piles of paperwork, money, quarantine, and insurance.

According to the TAT, airline connectivity with Thailand and the rest of the world is only at 50% of 2019 numbers.  The government urgently needs to increase its tourism income.

TAT anticipates that Russians will visit Thailand and spend their money in the kingdom. TAT is currently working in a partnership with travel operators to bring Russian visitors to Thailand via chartered flights this coming high season.

In addition, starting October 30, 2022, Russian airline Aeroflot will resume daily direct flights between Moscow and Phuket.
