Chiang Mai Tops List For Healthcare Services In Southeast Asia

A recent online poll ranked Chiang Mai as the leading city in Southeast Asia for quality healthcare. Bangkok came in at No. 3 and Pattaya at No. 4, bringing the number of Thai cities on the list to 4.

Numbeo’s Health Care Index is a measure of the total quality of the healthcare system these include doctors, healthcare professionals, staff, and cost.

The survey is mainly based on visitor surveys on the Numbeo website. These survey questions are comparable to other similar scientific and government questionnaires.

In order to create the index (which is always up to date), Numbeo uses data that is up to 36 months old and only lists cities for which there are a minimum amount of contributors. The website’s semiannual index is recalculated twice yearly by incorporating the current index into the historical view.

The top 10 Southeast Asian cities for healthcare, according to Numbeo are:

Foreigners are interested in Chiang Mai because of its low cost of living, convenience, culture, community, and low-cost high-quality healthcare. Healthcare treatments at leading hospitals in Chiang Mai, like Bangkok Hospital, are less expensive compared to hospitals in the United States and United Kingdom.

For this year, Phuket did not reach the top 10, but it may slip into the list in the coming years, as Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha intends to make Phuket a “world-class center of medical tourism” by 2028. The “Medical Plaza”, an international medical and public health service hub will include an international elderly care center, rehabilitation center., and a palliative care center.
