After years of lockdowns, travel restrictions, and uncertainty, it’s time for Aussie golfers to pack their bags and head to Thailand for the ultimate golf adventure. Southeast Asian golf tourism is bouncing back, and Thailand’s golf scene is regaining its pre-pandemic glory, making it the perfect destination for Australian golf enthusiasts.

As Thailand recovers from the effects of Covid-19, popular golfing destinations like Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Ko Samui are eagerly welcoming international travelers. Gone are the days of mandatory vaccinations and two-week isolation periods, making it easier than ever for Aussies to enjoy the stunning golf courses of Hua Hin and beyond.

Simon Mees, general manager of the highly-regarded Banyan Golf Club in Hua Hin, shares the optimism, noting that recent months have seen a surge in bookings, rounds played, and overall revenue. While it’s still too early to tell if this growth is merely a result of pent-up travel demand, the numbers are indeed promising.

One trend worth noting is the shift toward shorter-term bookings. Instead of reserving holidays months in advance, golfers are now more likely to book trips within a two-week window. This change in behavior can be attributed to the lingering uncertainty around cancellations and potential loss of deposits.

The peak golf season in Thailand and Southeast Asia runs from November to February, coinciding with the northern-hemisphere winter. However, Aussie and Kiwi golfers can enjoy discounted green fees by traveling between June and September. Despite slightly warmer temperatures, they won’t have to compete with the European market for tee times.

Ian Morgan, director of Asia Golf Experiences, acknowledges that high airfare costs remain a deterrent, but he’s confident that Aussies’ passion for travel will ultimately prevail. Morgan’s company, Asia Golf Experiences, makes it easy to plan a golf vacation by streamlining tee times, hotel reservations, and transportation bookings.

In 2023, Asia Golf Experiences will once again host ‘Week of Golf‘ events in Hua Hin (June) and Phuket (October), with both events attracting a majority of Australian golfers in the past. For more information, visit asiagolfexperiences.com.

Multi-destination tours featuring golf in Bangkok, Hua Hin, and Kanchanaburi in western Thailand are also gaining popularity. Kanchanaburi, a town with historical significance for Australians, offers a unique blend of history and golf, with hidden gems like Royal Rachaburi and Grand Prix offering a quintessential Thai golf experience.

So, Aussie golfers, it’s time to dust off your clubs and embark on a thrilling golf adventure in Thailand. With its alluring mix of top-notch courses, rich history, and unbeatable scenery, there’s no better time to rediscover the Land of Smiles.
