According to the Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket office, Nanthasiri Ronnasiri, Phuket’s tourism sector has rebounded by “as much as 80%” even though the occupancy rate average is at 35%.

According to PR Phuket, foreign and local tourists flocked to major tourist sites such as Thalang Rd and Soi Rommanee in Phuket Town and Lard Yai Walking Street market.

The report also shows a positive sign for Phuket tourism, especially for the upcoming high season.

From May 1 to November 27, 2022, Phuket Immigration Chief Pol Col Thanet Sukchai recorded 934,164 arrivals which 914,746 were foreign tourists.

According to the research, Russia, India, Australia, Germany, and England were the top 5 markets for international arrivals.

The TAT director said that tourism in Phuket produced THB 119.18 billion of tourism revenue between January and October 2022.

She added that out of the 101,221 rooms on the island, Phuket’s occupancy rate average is at 35.04%.

According to the report, Ms. Nanthasiri said that tourism in Phuket has improved by as much as 80% despite the absence of a Chinese market.

“Businesses have been waiting for nearly 3 years to recover from the effects of the recent pandemic.  Therefore, tourists are no longer a hindrance to economic recovery.” Ms. Nanthasiri said.

The majority of business owners see the labor shortage in the tourism industry as a major problem soon. This is regarded as unfavorable to the business’s service capacity and a problem for Phuket’s tourism during recovery.
