The Tourism Authority of Thailand has said that Thailand needs to find ways to increase tourist arrivals in the last quarter (peak season) in order to achieve its target of 7-10 million tourist arrivals this year.

TAT’s deputy governor for International Marketing in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas Chattan Kunjara na Ayudhya, said that TAT sets its target of welcoming 4 million travelers from the Americas, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East this year.

TAT anticipates 3.25 million travelers from these countries provided certain requirements are met such as the number of direct flights and eased travel requirements.

The TAT estimates that a traveler can spend up to THB 80,000. This will generate up to THB260 billion in tourism revenue for Thailand.

If Russian travelers are allowed fly directly to Thailand, the number of tourists from these areas would rise to 3.75 million and the Kingdom can potentially earn THB300 billion in total tourism income this year.

The TAT views Saudi Arabia as a rising market. The Kingdom estimates that up to 100,000 tourists from Saudi Arabia will visit the country this year which could generate THB7 billion, or THB70,000 per tourist.

In addition, TAT also predicts 400,000 Middle East tourists in 2022, generating THB28 billion for the economy.

Meanwhile, Thailand anticipates welcoming 750,000 American tourists, earning THB52.5 billion, or THB70,000 per person.

In 2019, Thailand welcomed 39 million visitors, producing THB1.9 trillion.

Of these numbers, 7.6 million of them came from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, and they averaged 14 days in Thailand. Meanwhile, 1.55 million arrived from the Americas and remained an average of 14.46 days.
