Highlighting Thailand’s commitment to environmental conservation, two national parks, Bangkok Phu Khiao Forest – Nam Nao and Phu Kradueng, have received designation as ASEAN heritage parks. They were officially recognized at the 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment (17 AMME) in Lao PDR on August 23 and 24. Deputy Government Spokeswoman Rachada Dhanadirek proudly announced these parks as the 56th and 57th members of the coveted ASEAN heritage parks list.

This distinction is a testament to ASEAN’s broader mission to prioritize and protect the region’s ecological gems. Heritage parks are ecological hubs that preserve the region’s rich biodiversity. For the everyday traveler and local communities, this designation means enhanced protection of the parks, a potential boost in eco-tourism, and a reminder of the intrinsic value of nature.

Reflecting on these significant achievements, Rachada emphasized the Thai government’s unwavering dedication to preserving national parks and ensuring the sustainability of its rich natural resources. She noted that these recognitions at the ASEAN level were not merely individual achievements. They culminated tireless efforts from multiple agencies working towards a common vision.
