Phangnga, Thailand

The local tourist council in Phangnga anticipates welcoming 3,000 guests and revenue up to 500,000,000 baht from tourism during the first phase of Thailand’s newest tourism sandbox program.

The estimates come on the heels of the CCSA’s authorization of the “7+7” model that allows visitors covered by the Phuket Sandbox to depart the island after 7 days and go to other approved safe places.

Tourists may go to Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, and Koh Samui in Surat Thani; Koh Yao Noi, Kho Yao Yai, and Khao Lak in Phangnga; and Railay Beach, Koh Ngai, and Koh Phi Phi in Krabi under the 7+7 model, which will start on August 17.

Tourism officials in Phangnga are hoping that tourists would select Khao Lak than Koh Yao Noi, and Kho Yao Yai.

The council’s president, Pongsakorn Ketprapakorn, encouraged tourists visiting the province under the 7+7 model to utilize the CHABA website, which allows visitors to book accommodation at approved hotels and packages from participating tour companies. He added that tourists must adhere to the Foreign Ministry and Tourism and Sports Ministry standards, as well as have negative RT-PCR test results before departing Phuket.

According to a source, 3 hotels have already received reservations from international guests, one in each of the districts of Khao Lak, Takua Pa, and Kho Yao. Yesterday, the province reported 0 Covid-19 cases, while the total number of cases recorded since April 11 remained at 788, with four fatalities.
