The Thailand Elite Visa is now officially called the Thailand Privilege Card. The program was renamed and its tiers restructured in October 2023, and it is operated by Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd., a state enterprise under Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Both names still lead to the same
product, so if you searched “Thailand Elite Visa,” this is it.

You pay a one-time membership fee and receive a multiple-entry Privilege Entry (PE) visa valid for a fixed term of 5 to 20 years, with permission to stay for up to one year per entry. If you remain in Thailand continuously for more than one year, you must apply for an annual extension of stay at a Thai Immigration Office and pay the THB 1,900 extension fee. This must be repeated each year that you remain in Thailand without leaving, until the visa expires. Fees currently start at THB 650,000 for the 5-year Bronze tier.

What is a Thailand Elite Visa?

The Thailand Elite Visa is a long-stay membership program that grants a multiple-entry Thai visa for a fixed term of 5 to 20 years in exchange for a one-time membership fee. Its official name since October 2023 is the Thailand Privilege Card. It is operated by Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd., a state
enterprise under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and has run since 2003.

The visa issued is a Privilege Entry (PE) visa. It permits a one-year length of stay per entry on a multiple-entry basis for the full membership term, so you neither leave the country every 90 days nor apply for a new visa each year. That removal of recurring administration is the program’s core operational value.

It is a long-stay visa, not a residency status and not a work authorization. Membership does not make you a permanent resident of Thailand and does not lead to permanent residence or citizenship.

USD figures are approximate, converted at THB 33.8 = USD 1 as of 30 July 2026. Exchange rates move; confirm the THB figure, which is the amount actually payable.

Gold costs more per year than Platinum THB 180,000 against THB 150,000 because Gold’s 5-year term carries nearly the same fee structure as Bronze while Platinum spreads a larger fee across twice the years. If you are choosing on cost per year and intend to stay long-term, Platinum is the more efficient tier
of the two.

The Thailand Elite Visa costs between THB 650,000 and THB 5,000,000 as a one-time membership fee, depending on tier. Bronze is the lowest-cost entry at THB 650,000 for 5 years, which works out to THB 130,000 per year. Reserve is the highest at THB 5,000,000 for 20 years, or THB 250,000 per year, and is available by invitation only.  All fees are one-time and non-refundable, with no annual renewal charge.

How do Thailand Privilege Points work?

Privilege Points are an annual allowance granted to Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Reserve members, redeemable against lifestyle and travel services. Gold receives 20 points a year, Platinum 35, Diamond 55 and Reserve 120. Bronze members receive no points.

How To Apply For a Thailand Elite Visa?

The application runs in three stages and takes roughly 6 to 8 weeks from a complete submission to visa issuance. You can apply from anywhere; you do not need to be in Thailand. Government background clearance is the longest stage and cannot be accelerated.

What documents do you need for a Thailand Elite Visa?

Eligibility is deliberately broad: hold a valid foreign passport, have no deportation record in any country, and have no overstay record in Thailand. There is no minimum income, age or bank-balance requirement. The standard document set is a passport valid for at least 6 months, a copy of its personal details page, a scanned secondary ID, the application form and a Personal Data Policy Form.

What are the limitations of the Thailand Elite Visa?

The Thailand Privilege Card carries five material limitations. It confers no work rights. Employment requires a separate work permit under the Foreigners’ Working Management Emergency Decree B.E. 2560, and the Privilege Entry visa cannot be used as its basis.

It does not count toward permanent residence or citizenship; PR requires three consecutive years on a non-immigrant visa, which the PE category is not. Membership fees are non-refundable once paid and non-transferable between individuals, with the sole exception of the Reserve tier. It grants no property rights beyond those any foreigner already holds. And it provides no tax exemption — unlike the LTR visa, which does.

North Korean nationals remain ineligible under current program rules.

Can you work in Thailand on a Thailand Elite Visa?

Thailand Privilege is a long-stay visa, not work authorization, and it cannot be combined with a Thai work permit. Members are prohibited from holding one, and applicants who already hold a work permit do not qualify for membership. Working in Thailand requires separate authorization under Thai employment law.

Do Thailand Elite Visa holders pay Thai tax?

Thailand Privilege membership confers no tax exemption of any kind. Your Thai tax position depends on how long you spend in Thailand and what money you bring in, not on which visa you hold. Anyone present 180 days or more in a calendar year is a Thai tax resident for that year.

Can you buy property in Thailand on a Thailand Elite Visa?

The Thailand Elite Visa grants no property rights beyond those available to any foreigner. Foreigners cannot own land in Thailand regardless of visa type, visa duration or membership tier. A higher tier does not unlock more of the property market.

What is available to any foreigner, member or not:

• Condominium freehold – Foreigners may own condominium units outright, subject to a cap of 49% of the total unit space in any given building. If a building has reached its foreign quota, freehold is unavailable to you whatever visa you hold.
• Leasehold on land and houses – Registered leases run to a maximum of 30 years. Renewal is common in practice but is not legally guaranteed against a future owner. This is the standard structure for villa occupation.
• Ownership through a Thai company – Legally complex, carries substantive risk if the structure is not genuinely commercially operated, and entirely independent of your visa status.

Where membership does help is transactionally rather than legally members can open Thai bank accounts readily, which matters for transferring and evidencing purchase funds, and long-term visa security makes a long-term purchase easier to justify. Neither changes what you are permitted to buy.

If a property purchase is the reason you are considering the visa, be clear that the visa will not expand your options. We would rather tell you that now.

Can you add family members to a Thailand Elite Visa?

Family members can be added to Platinum, Diamond and Reserve memberships only. Bronze and Gold are single-applicant tiers. The program defines immediate family as legitimate parents, step-parents, a married spouse, children and civil-union partners. Each family member pays a separate supplementary fee and must have the eligibility criteria as the principal: valid foreign passport, no deportation record, no overstay history.

Thailand Elite Visa vs LTR Visa: which should you choose?

The Thailand Privilege Card and the LTR visa solve different problems. Privilege buys simplicity with no income test and no annual renewal. The LTR visa is cheaper in government fees but requires you to prove income or assets and fit one of its qualifying categories.

Thailand Privilege Card vs the O-A retirement visa

The O-A retirement visa has a far lower government fee but requires you to be 50 or over, keep 800,000 baht in a Thai bank, hold Thai health insurance, and renew annually at immigration. Thailand Privilege has no age limit, no bank deposit and no annual renewal.

Is the Thailand Elite Visa worth it in 2026?

The Thailand Privilege Card is worth the fee for applicants who cannot qualify for a cheaper alternative, or who place a high value on certainty and on never dealing with Thai immigration administration again. It is poor value for applicants who qualify comfortably for the LTR Visa or the O-A retirement visa
and do not mind the paperwork.

It is worth it if:

1. You do not meet LTR income or asset thresholds, or you are under 50, and you want long-stay status with no financial qualification
2. You cannot obtain compliant health insurance at an acceptable premium, which rules out the O-A and the LTR but not the Privilege Card
3. You travel in and out of Thailand frequently and want unlimited re-entry with no annual renewal
4. You will not or cannot lock THB 800,000 into a Thai bank account
5. You are bringing family, and the per-person cost under the supplementary rate
   changes the arithmetic
6. You value certainty highly.  A fixed term granted once, never re-adjudicated
   against your finances or your insurer’s decisions

It is not worth it if:

1. You are 50 or over with USD 80,000 a year in documented passive income.  The LTR is cheaper and carries a genuine foreign-income exemption under Royal Decree No. 743
2. You are 50 or over with accessible capital or a qualifying pension and are content with the O-A’s annual renewal
3. You need to work in or from Thailand. The Privilege Card cannot give you that at any tier, and the LTR’s WFTP and HSP categories can.
4. You are buying it expecting tax benefits or expanded property rights. It confers neither.
5. You are spending 180 or more days a year in Thailand and have not yet taken Thai tax advice on your remittance pattern.

The Privilege Card is a government-operated commercial program, not a statutory residency right. It was restructured in October 2023, when tiers and pricing changed materially. Existing memberships were honored through that restructure and were not cancelled. Anyone committing THB 2,500,000 to a 15-year Diamond membership should understand they are relying on program continuity rather than on legislation, and price that accordingly.

Does a Thailand Elite Visa let you buy land or property in Thailand?

It grants no additional property rights. Foreigners cannot own land in Thailand regardless of visa type. Condominium freehold is available up to the 49% foreign quota per building, and villas are typically held on 30-year registered leases.

Is the LTR Visa better than the Thailand Privilege Card?

If you qualify for it, usually yes on cost and tax. Yes. Platinum, Diamond and Reserve memberships accept immediate family as dependents, each receiving their own Privilege Entry visa for the remainder of the Core Member’s term. Under a promotion ending 14 August 2026, additional family members can be added for THB 750,000 each.

Is health insurance required for a Thailand Elite Visa?

No. Unlike the O-A retirement visa, which requires minimum cover of THB 40,000 outpatient and THB 400,000 inpatient, the Privilege Card has no health insurance requirement. This is a significant advantage for applicants over 60 or with pre-existing conditions.
