Multiple travel agencies in Chiang Mai expect a surge of Saudi Arabian tourists this year as preparations are underway to execute a roadshow in the Middle East. The event aims to strengthen mutual cooperation and attract more tourists to Thailand.

The primary subject of yesterday’s meeting, conducted by the deputy governor, Weerapong Rithrod, was the upcoming roadshow event, Thailand Mega Fair 2023. The roadshow aims to promote this northern Thai province’s incentives, meetings, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sectors.

The Thai Chamber of Commerce, Index Creative Village, and other related agencies are collaborating on the organization and execution of the roadshow, which is scheduled for December 13-16. They are collaborating with Saudi Arabia to broaden and strengthen the bilateral relationship.

Saudi Arabia is a potential growth market, especially in light of Saudi Vision 2030. The expanding needs and demands of the country regarding recreation, health, wellness, and tourism present Thai businesses with viable business opportunities.

Currently focused on revitalizing the tourism industry, which the Covid-19 pandemic has severely impacted, Chiang Mai hopes to draw Saudi visitors to the roadshow. It is advised that the local government and businesses collaborate on a marketing strategy to attract Saudi tourists. This strategy should recognize trends in high-spending tourism and prioritize local goods and services.

Thailand is a much-preferred vacation destination for Saudis, particularly during the fasting month of Ramadan, post-Ramadan, and the holiday season. Around 30% of Saudi visitors work in the health and wellness industry, spending an average of 80,000 baht per person.
