After more than 2 years of closure, the Club Med resort in Phuket’s southwest coast is now open.

Pichet Panapong, Vice Governor of Phuket was on board to officiate the reopening last March 16, stating that the resort’s reopening would help boost the local economy.

Club Med Phuket is a 305-room resort set on over 100 rai of beachfront property in Kata, one of the island’s hardest-hit locations during the pandemic. Owing to the near-complete absence of visitors, businesses have stayed closed due to a lack of tourists.

Initiatives to clean up the destination have continued in order to attract local and foreign tourists.

“Having Club Med reopen is a fantastic opportunity for us,” Vice Governor Pichet stated.

“I think it will boost tourism in Phuket. Club Med is known globally.  This will also serve as an indirect urge Thai Airways to resume daily flights between Bangkok and Phuket,”

“While the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the local tourism, the environment and natural attractions are revitalized,” he added.
