As yet another cruise ship approaches the island of Koh Samui, authorities in the southern Thai province of Surat Thani continue to be optimistic about the tourism industry’s recovery. As the sector continues to recover from the effects of the pandemic, the Thai government urges businesses to protect the country’s good reputation. Pattaya Mail reports that there are 31 cruise ships slated to visit Koh Samui in 2023, followed by 32 in 2024.

The arrival of the Mein Schiff 5 cruise liner makes Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha delighted since Koh Samui will welcome over 2,500 European tourists for one day. The Mein Schiff 5 cruise liner is the second European cruise ship to visit Koh Samui in the past 3 years.

Officials anticipate that the number of international tourists to Thailand will surpass current forecasts as the world recovers from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which substantially reduced international travel owing to strict health measures implemented globally. Prayut has also advised individuals who may seek to take advantage of tourists by requesting all parties to strictly enforce policies to protect tourists from abusive tourism operators and taxi drivers. In order to protect the country’s image in the tourism industry, he told officials to implement strict law enforcement measures by giving hefty fines and penalties if such acts were discovered.
