Mein Schiff 5

The luxury liner Mein Schiff 5 just docked in Koh Samui, marking the arrival of the first luxury cruise ship in the country this year. Over 3,000 European visitors take part in a day of shopping and sightseeing, generating around THB 5 million baht in tourism income for the island. On January 14, the ship came from Vietnam and docked at Nathon Pier on the west coast of Koh Samui.

Chayapon Intarasupa, the mayor of Koh Samui, said that local businesses welcomed the swarm of tourists from Mein Schiff 5. However, the travelers came on a memorable day, as residents were celebrating Children’s Day.

Tourists also explore local villages and attractions throughout their stay on the island. The mayor highlighted the need for hospitality, excellent services, and safety. He emphasized that operators and companies should not take advantage of cruise ship passengers and ruin Thailand and Koh Samui’s image.

According to the National News Bureau of Thailand, the island generated five million baht in tourism earnings during a single-day trip for Mein Schiff 5 passengers.

In recent months, the number of European visitors to Koh Samui has been increasing and officials are taking steps to improve the island’s services and public safety. Currently, they are preparing for the influx of Chinese visitors during the Chinese New Year week which will start from January 21 to 27.

Local officials are conducting random safety inspections on public transportation at newly established checkpoints. As per health and safety standards, most locals are vaccinated against Covid-19 and receive booster shots.

Koh Samui is prepared to continue attracting visitors and producing cash with the arrival of the Mein Schiff 5.
