Pack up your suitcases and reserve your energy. Koh Pha Ngan has been selected as the best location for a workation, which is an increasingly popular term for combining a vacation with work. William Russell, famous health, life, and income insurer, ranked the famous tourist island in the southern Thailand province of Surat Thani first out of 16 destinations he assessed.
The list was computed by primary aspects that are important. These are accommodation expenses, internet speed, safety, and of course, enjoyment. Koh Pha Ngan, renowned for its northern coasts and the popular Full Moon Party in the south of the island, has surpassed the Spanish island of Gran Canaria to grab the top position for the top workcation destination in the world.
On Russell’s list, the Spanish island was placed second, followed by Lisbon, Portugal. Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Austin, Texas rounded out the top 5. Bangkok was placed first in a similar report last year. Thailand routinely appears on lists of the best places to work.
A government spokesperson used the top position as an opportunity to promote the government’s efforts in revitalizing tourism in Thailand and boosting the southern provinces, stressing that the marketing of Thailand’s beautiful islands is part of the country’s 20-year plan to attract international tourists.
“Koh Pha Ngan is a perfect place for long-term stays, and its Full Moon Parties have made it popular with local and international tourists. Prime minister Prayut also thinks that marketing the Andaman provinces would draw more visitors to Thailand, producing local money and leading to economic recovery.”
Koh Pha Ngan attained the number one workation ranking because of its strong ratings in safety and entertainment and its second-lowest monthly cost of living. However, Pha Ngan’s internet connectivity only average of 24 Mbps is 4 times higher than the Argentinian rates and is deemed enough for online work.
The government said that it would continue to promote Surat Thani as well as turn Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga, Ranong, Satun, and Trang provinces into world-class tourist attractions.
