Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn and Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew announced the month-long ‘Aqua Lumina’ series of events that will be staged in Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi to promote tourism in the area.

The event, officially titled “Aqua Lumina Illumination Festival, the Miracle of Light from the Andaman Sea,” will run from May 14 to June 12.

Mr. Phi Phat said during the press launch event held at Bangkok’s Central World shopping mall that the purpose of the festival is to revitalize the economy, encourage tourism in the region, and establish trust among both Thai and foreign visitors in the quality of travel to be experienced.

“In 2022, the global COVID-19 situation is projected to improve, and many high-quality visitors from across the globe are planning to travel overseas”

Mr. Phiphat added that this is an opportunity for Thailand as a tourist destination to show its potential in the tourism industry by holding activities that include sports, arts, culture, and the combination of internationally-recognized innovation in organizing activities that effectively reach the target market.

He said that the celebration would include music festivals, sports events, a light-and-sound festival, and food fairs showcasing local delicacies and leisure activities that may boost travel (to the Andman provinces) by Thai and international visitors.

Mr. Phiphat stated that at least 90,000 visitors, including Thais and foreigners, would attend the activities and estimated revenue earnings of at least 700 million baht.

The Phuket stage of the Aqua Lumina event will be conducted under the theme ‘Land of the Andaman Guardians,’ according to Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew.

Only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will the Phuket celebrations feature a spectacular light-and-sound show. There will be live entertainment, including a special ‘Glowing Nora’ dance, in which performers will spin fire sticks while performing the traditional dance Southern Thailand Nora dance, he added.

Additionally, there will be live music by local bands and activity stations for everyone to enjoy. All ages are welcome to participate in this program.
