On Monday, Government Spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said that around 300,000 international tourists came in the first 7 days after Thailand scrapped the Test & Go program.

Thanakorn said that PM Prayut was pleased with the number of foreign tourist arrivals after the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) terminated the Test & Go entry program on May 1.

The program’s cancellation eliminates the need for fully-vaccinated visitors to stay in a hotel and undergo the costly RT-PCR Covid test upon arrival.

Unvaccinated travelers who can’t show proof of negative Covid test results 72 hours before arrival in Thailand will undergo mandatory quarantine for 5 days in a government-accredited hotel.

With the removal of the Test & Go program as the country’s full reopening, all foreign arrivals are still required to register via the Thailand Pass website. Tourism and hotel businesses view this as the last stumbling block for their businesses.

The government said that the Tourism Authority of Thailand anticipates around 300,000 international visitors to visit Thailand every month until September.

He expects tourist arrivals to increase up to 1 million per month during peak season from October to December.
