There has been a lot of articles written regarding the delays in vaccination distribution in Thailand.

Yet, Phuket’s rapid vaccination rollout means the island is on track to fulfill its aim of vaccinating 70% of the local population before its scheduled reopening to foreign tourists on July 1.

Phuket governor Narong Woonciew said on Thursday (May 27) that 50% of the local population are vaccinated.

And if everyone who has registered receives the vaccine, 65% of the island’s population will be inoculated.

Narong expressed his gratitude to the residents of Phuket for their participation in the vaccination campaign.

According to Phuket Hot News, he stated that another vaccination drive will now take place to ensure that the remaining people received the vaccine.

As of May 27, approximately 80,000 individuals have not yet registered for the immunization.

Village headmen and volunteers will knock on doors in the neighborhoods, urging residents to register. The governor stated that those who register would immediately receive the first dose of the vaccine.

Apart from public hospitals, there are six vaccination sites in Phuket: Central Phuket Floresta, Phuket Orchid Resort and Spa Karon, Jungceylon Shopping Center, Angsana Laguna Phuket Hotel, Saphan Hin Gymnasium, and X Terminal at Phuket Airport.

Before the island reopens to tourists on July 1, 310,000 people will be vaccinated, the governor said.
