The Thailand Wellness Sandbox entry was announced and will be launched in the coastal area of Hua Hin and Cha-am. These places were chosen as the pilot areas for the project. Officials are considering adding more locations in the near future.

Following the success of the Phuket Sandbox, the Tourism Authority of Thailand submitted the plan to the Center for Economic Situation Administration. The plan will promote wellness and medical tourism is meant to boost Thailand’s economy.

The Sandbox program allows travelers who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter Thailand and can travel freely in approved Sandbox areas for their first 7 days, rather than undergo mandatory quarantine in a hotel.  With the resumption of the Test & Go quarantine-free system which will start on February 1, some believe that the additional Sandbox choices are superfluous. Numerous resorts provide Sandbox packages that will simplify travel arrangements.

Tourism authorities want to utilize the Wellness Sandbox to market Hua Hin and Cha-am as the world’s number 1 health tourism destination, highlighting local specialties such as Thai massage and spa services, as well as traditional Thai medicine and herbal goods.  Participating resorts and spas must adhere to the Safety and Health Administration’s COVID-19 prevention guidelines.

This program will run concurrently with the Thailand Riviera campaign, which was launched to promote tourism in southern Thailand’s growing provinces such as Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phetchaburi, Chumphon, and Ranong.
