Government spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana reported that from January 1 to September 8, more than 5 million foreign travelers visited Thailand.  The total number of foreign arrivals is 5,018,172.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) also reported 751,397 arrivals and the largest group of tourists are from Malaysia followed by India with 480,825.  Laos is in the 3rd place with 310,464 arrivals, while Cambodia is in the 4th place with a total of 249,084 tourists brought to Thailand.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) anticipated that the number of tourists would surpass 10 million by end of 2022, based on advanced airline ticket sales and hotel reservations.

The tourist demographics changed from what the government published last month about the top countries sending travelers to Thailand.  In August, the top 5 countries that visited the land of smiles are Malaysia, India, Laos, Singapore, and the UK.

Thailand has attracted an increasing number of Malaysians for short-haul vacations. Last month, Malaysians surpassed Indians as the largest tourist group visiting Thailand.
