Thailand ranked fourth on a list of the 10 cheapest countries to visit, proving once again that it “smiles” better than most countries. The study was conducted by Kiplinger magazine, an American business forecasting and personal financial counseling publication.

According to the poll, the average daily cost in Thailand is around US$52, with lodgings costing approximately US$21 per night and food costing approximately US$14 per day.

Although airfares to Thailand can be quite expensive during certain times of the year, Kiplinger notes that savings on other costs more than compensate. In addition to its affordability, Thailand is famous for its tropical beaches, jungle temples, Buddhist monuments, and delectable cuisine available at restaurants and street markets. Thailand is routinely the most visited country in Southeast Asia.

Laos topped the list as the cheapest destination to visit, with a daily average cost of about $15 USD. In second position was Turkey with US$23, followed by Indonesia, Hungary, Costa Rica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Portugal, and Greece.

It is also noteworthy that Thailand, along with Italy, was recently recognized as an exceptional tourist destination at the Grand Travel Awards this year in Stockholm, Sweden.

Thailand usually ranks well in surveys and polls on the top beaches, nightlife, and cuisine in the world.

According to a poll performed by Mastercard, Thailand was the second most popular destination in the Asia-Pacific area in 2021. The poll took into account characteristics such as the number of foreign overnight guests, the amount of money spent by tourists, and the number of nights spent at each destination.

Mastercard’s Global Destination Cities Index also placed Bangkok as the most traveled city in the world in 2019.

In addition, Thailand has earned other recognitions and awards in recent years for its popularity as a tourist destination.

Thailand was chosen “Best Country” by Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards in 2019, and Bangkok was voted “Best City” in Asia-Pacific. In the 2018 Pacific Area Travel Writers Association Awards, Thailand was also named the “World’s Best Tourist Destination”.
